Some popular questions about CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is beloved by our Danville patients — and why not? It’s non-invasive, and in an hour, we can freeze away fat cells, helping men and women sculpt their bodies with precision (and without surgery).

CoolSculpting continues to raise more questions among curious would-be patients as it gets ever more popular. Some popular questions about CoolSculpting, a non-invasive fat reduction treatment, include:

How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction treatment that uses a process called cryolipolysis to target and eliminate stubborn fat cells. During your initial consultation, a trained healthcare professional will evaluate your areas of concern and determine if you are a suitable candidate for CoolSculpting. Once the treatment areas have been identified, a CoolAdvantage or Coolmini applicator is placed on the skin surface. The applicator delivers controlled cooling to the underlying fat cells without harming the surrounding tissues. The cooling process causes the fat cells to undergo cryolipolysis, which means they freeze and crystallize.

Where does the fat go?

CoolSculpting works by selectively freezing fat cells, causing them to die in a natural process called apoptosis. CoolSculpting selectively targets and damages the fat cells while leaving the surrounding skin and tissues unharmed. Over time, the frozen fat cells undergo a process called apoptosis, in which they are gradually eliminated from the body through natural metabolic processes. The body’s lymphatic system and liver play a role in clearing away the damaged fat cells.

When do I see results?

As the body eliminates the treated fat cells, you will begin to notice a reduction in the treated area’s fat layer. This process occurs gradually over several weeks or months, with the full results typically visible within a few months after the treatment. this happens, because nearby healthy cells may absorb the cellular material. Otherwise, it is naturally filtered out of the body. The entire process takes several weeks, and you’ll see your ultimate results once it’s complete.

One important distinction to make: Although the removed fat cells won’t return, it is still possible to gain weight after CoolSculpting. Weight gain may be visible in other body areas that have not undergone CoolSculping. Maintaining a good diet and exercise habits is essential to getting the desired results.

Can it harm my skin?

CoolSculpting takes advantage of a unique property of fat cells: They freeze at higher temperatures than other cells. That allows the CoolSculpting device to operate at a temperature that destroys fat cells while remaining warm enough to avoid damaging skin, muscle, or other tissue.

Additionally, the CoolSculpting device relies on special, proprietary technology that regulates the temperature throughout treatment. It’s an extra safety measure that’s in place to ensure your session is 100% safe from start to finish.

Will it help me shed some extra pounds?

CoolSculpting isn’t a substitute for healthy habits, and it’s not appropriate for people who are significantly overweight. Instead, it’s best for men and women who are relatively close to their ideal size but still have some lingering areas of unwanted fat that they’d like to reduce.

You may not see a dramatic difference on the scale after treatment, but you will likely notice that you look great in your favorite clothes thanks to slimmer contours that will make you feel more confident wherever you go.
