Cellulite is something that nine out of 10 women face. Although topical treatments are marketed to reduce their appearance, few procedures address the root cause of cellulite.

Cellulite occurs when the subcutaneous fat tissue interacts with the skin’s connective tissue, causing it to dimple. Although people think it is associated with body weight and fat, cellulite can affect women of all sizes. Three main factors contribute to the formation of cellulite:

  • Skin: As we age, our skin becomes thinner, making the appearance of cellulite more visible.
  • Fat: Fat cells enlarge and push against the skin creating a dimple effect on the outside.
  • Fibrous Bands: Fibrous bands under the skin thicken and cause tension, creating the signature dimpling.

What is Qwo?

Qwo is the first and only FDA-approved injectable for treating cellulite in the buttocks. It comprises two enzymes that eat away at the fibrous bands connecting the skin to the muscle, creating a better skin quality and less cellulite appearance.

How Does Qwo Work?

The enzymes in Qwo, called collagenases, target a structural cause under the skin. It works in 3 different ways: releasing the fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells, and stimulating new collagen growth.

How Long Is The Qwo Treatment?

At your consultation, Dr. Ellie Zarnegar will begin by fully assessing your areas of concern and marking the dimpled areas. After indicating the areas that will be treated, she will inject the product with a small needle. Since the injections are more fat cells and fewer nerve cells in the buttocks, the injections will not be painful, and no topical numbing is necessary. The injection process itself takes about 10 minutes.

What Are The Side Effects of Qwo?

Common side effects after Qwo injections include bruising, pain, areas of hardness, itching, redness, discoloration, swelling, and warmth in the treated areas.

When Will I Begin To See Results After Qwo?

Visible results may be achieved in 10 weeks. Individual results vary as each patient is unique.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Typically, patients need 3-5 treatments, each spaced out 21 days apart.

Can Qwo Be Used To Treat Cellulite In Areas Other Than The Buttocks?

Although Qwo is only FDA-approved for the buttocks, it can be used off-label for other areas of the body such as the back of the thighs.
