If you’re like the majority of our skincare patients in Danville, California, your daily anti-aging regimen probably includes sunscreen, moisturizer, and perhaps a retinoid. You may also treat your body to regular exercise and a healthy diet low in processed foods, which can slow down internal aging. But in our quest for long-term youth, the hands often get left behind, leading to spots, crepey texture, and other signs of aging.

Happily, it’s relatively easy to both prevent the aging of the hands and reduce the signs of damage already done. At Essential Aesthetics, I rely on the versatility of dermal fillers to improve the look of hands.

Over time, the aging process robs hands of volume, just as it does the face. This results in a “veiny” appearance which can drastically make hands look older. Additionally, constant sun exposure from days of driving, gardening, and spending time outdoors leaves behind spots and diminished skin quality. Strategic use of dermal fillers adds back lost volume for a youthful-looking result, while laser skin resurfacing on the backs of the hands can fade spots.

It’s never too late for preventive care. The easiest and most effective way to keep your hands looking great is by protecting them from the sun. When you get ready in the morning, apply sunscreen to your hands, just as you would lotion, a few minutes before you leave the house. This can help shield your hands from UV rays while driving and spending time outside. Additionally, keep your hands moisturized throughout the day. Dry skin makes hands look older, and long-term dryness can cause cracking and chapping in older, thin skin.

It takes just a few simple steps to keep your hands looking beautiful and young, and my staff and I have the expertise to help.
