An effective skincare routine can keep your skin looking healthy, youthful, and beautiful. As winter approaches, you need to give your skin extra care due to the harsher weather conditions. Making a few small changes can maintain or even improve the appearance of your skin.

Moisturize and Hydrate

During the winter, the temperatures drop, and your skin becomes dryer. Dry skin can lead to cracking, peeling, and even bleeding. When it gets colder, your priority is to keep your skin moisturized. Find effective moisturizers for your face, hands, and body. You should moisturize after showering and washing your hands. It’s helpful to moisturize before bed since you won’t be moving around. Another way to keep your skin moisturized is by staying hydrated. Drinking plenty of water and eating foods with high water content (such as fruits and vegetables) can keep your skin hydrated.

Get a Humidifier

You can also keep your skin moisturized and hydrated by using a humidifier. This introduces more moisture into the air, which your skin can absorb. You can use a humidifier to increase the humidity of your entire home, or you can focus on using it in the rooms where you spend the most time. You can even use one in your office at work. Running at night while you sleep is a great way to keep the air moisturized and expose your skin to a higher level of moisture. In addition to adding more moisture to the air, avoid extremely high temperatures. The heat dries out the air even more, so keep your thermostat fairly low.

Continue Using Sunscreen

You might think you only need sunscreen during the sunny summer months. However, you still need to wear sunscreen during the winter. Around 80% of the sun’s harmful UV rays can penetrate the clouds. So, even though it isn’t warm and sunny, your skin can still be exposed to these dangerous rays that can lead to skin cancer, sunburns, and premature aging. When sunny, UV rays can reflect off the snow and still damage your skin. Make sure you continue to apply sunscreen throughout the winter.

In the winter, the air is colder and dryer, which wreaks havoc on your skin. It’s important to change up your routine to combat this. If you want further help, you can undergo professional treatments to improve your skin.
