What Are Botox® Cosmetic & Dysport®
Facial lines form due to repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising the brows. BOTOX Cosmetic works beneath the skin to temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults, making them appear younger. BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport belong to the category of neuromodulators and are effective for dynamic wrinkles. Dr. Ellie Zarnegar uses neuromodulators to treat several areas of wrinkles, including frown lines, bunny lines, dimpling on the chin, and neck area such as platysmal neckbands.

What Is The Difference Between Botox® Cosmetic And Dysport®
BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport are botulinum toxins used to safely and effectively treat and prevent wrinkles. The consistency and purity of BOTOX Cosmetic products make it preferable to any other neurotoxin in the aesthetic industry. Both BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport have excellent safety records and are FDA-approved. BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport dosages are product specific and are not interchangeable. Most research has used a ratio of 2.5:1, indicating that 25 units of Dysport are roughly equivalent to 10 units of BOTOX Cosmetic. The downtime is minimal during both BOTOX and Dysport treatment, and you can resume your routine as soon as you leave our office. BOTOX Cosmetic or Dysport treatments typically give results within 24 to 48 hours, with full results in 14 days, and may last four to six months for moderate to severe wrinkles.

What Type Of Wrinkles Do Botox® Cosmetic And Dysport® Treat?
Neuromodulators are used to treat dynamic wrinkles which form from repeatedly making facial expressions such as smiling, squinting, or laughing. As we age and lose elasticity, these lines become static wrinkles that show regardless of facial expression. Dr. Ellie treats static wrinkles with dermal fillers.
Dynamic wrinkles usually form on the upper part of the face, such as:
- Horizontal creases across the forehead
- The vertical indentation between the eyebrows (frown lines)
- Subtle wrinkles from the outer corners of the eyes (crow’s feet)So you look like you, but with fewer visible facial lines.
BOTOX and other neuromodulators temporarily freeze the muscle, allowing the wrinkles to relax. BOTOX Cosmetic can also be injected into the Orbicularis Oculi pretarsal, Masseter, Mentalis, Depressor Anguli Oris, and Platysmal bands.

Are You A Candidate For Botox® Cosmetic Or Dysport® ?
Neuromodulators are approved by the FDA for use in adults 18 years and older. BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport treatments have been trusted by physicians and patients for many years because of their effectiveness in the treatment of lines, wrinkles, and many other medical conditions. Neuromodulators are typically very well-tolerated by most patients. BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport injections may not be right for you if you:
- Have certain medical conditions such as heart disease or a bleeding disorder
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a known allergy to botulinum toxin
Neuromodulators For Men
BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport treatments are gaining more popularity among males due to their modest effects or dynamic wrinkles. Dr. Ellie uses BOTOX injections to reduce the aging signs that bother men the most, such as frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. BOTOX works similarly on men and women, although men typically require more units than women due to their stronger and larger muscles. Men may require up to twice as much BOTOX for frown lines and forehead wrinkles to achieve optimal results.
Dr. Ellie understands that male patients might have different goals than females therefore, she creates a customized treatment plan that addresses each patient’s concerns while preserving and enhancing masculine contours. Neuromodulators can take years off without creating “feminine” looking results.
Preparing For Your Treatment
We recommend you abstain from alcohol, aspirin, and other substances that have a blood-thinning effect for at least 24 hours before your appointment. During your consultation, you and Dr. Ellie will discuss your aesthetic goals and what you can expect from your treatment more thoroughly.
Sometimes, you may determine that adding dermal fillers to your BOTOX Cosmetic or Dysport treatment will enhance your results. This combination treatment is often called a “non-surgical facelift” or a “liquid facelift.”
Your Results
Treatment with injectables is comfortable and typically takes about 30 minutes. Dr. Ellie begins by cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser to remove makeup, dirt, oil, and other contaminants. She then makes several injections, precisely targeting the muscles responsible for the wrinkles you wish to treat. She may ask you to smile, frown, or squint to help her better visualize the areas that need special attention. During each injection, you may feel a quick pinch.
You’re free to return to your usual activities immediately after treatment. However, for the remainder of the day, you should avoid touching your face without washing your hands, as this can lead to infection. You can expect some swelling, redness, tenderness, and/or bruising near your injection sites. These symptoms typically resolve on their own within a few days.
Neuromodulators do not take effect instantly. Results may take several days to develop. Your results last for about 4 months.
