What is Botox?

Botox is a nonsurgical, FDA-approved injectable. It temporarily diminished muscle activity, improving the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines, giving adults a more youthful appearance. Positioned in the neuromodulator category, BOTOX specifically addresses dynamic wrinkles. Renowned in the San Ramon and Lafayette region, PA Ellie employs neuromodulators to target multiple wrinkle areas, from frown lines to platysmal neckbands.

How does Botox work?

BOTOX, the trademarked name for Botulinum Type A, is a substance injected into the facial muscles that causes wrinkles. Once injected, it blocks the brain signals that drive muscles to contract, preventing wrinkles from developing on the skin. BOTOX injections can produce dramatic and transformative improvements that last up to six months.

What is Botox used for?

Botox is an FDA-approved treatment that temporarily enhances the appearance of forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet in adult patients. While only approved for these areas, it can also be used for other regions like the chin, masseter muscle, jawline, neck bands, hands, feet, and underarms, despite lacking FDA approval.

How long does it take for Botox to work?

It is crucial to be aware that the effects of Botox are not immediate. It might take two to four days for the muscle-weakening to begin and for movement to be halted. The maximum results of the treatment can be seen between ten to fourteen days post-treatment. These outcomes may last for four to six months.

What is Botox made of?

Botox is a form of botulinum toxin type A that comes in a sterile, lyophilized form. It is created by purifying a culture of the Hall strain of C. botulinum using a series of acid precipitations. The resulting product is a crystalline complex that contains not only the toxin but also other proteins.

How often should you get Botox?

Most Botox enhancements last three to four months on average; however, many patients are satisfied with treatments spaced six months apart. Others who dislike having any movement in the treated area prefer getting treated every four months.

Who is a good candidate for Botox?

Botox is a popular treatment option for people who wish to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, or physical irritation without undergoing a surgical procedure like a facelift. However, it’s essential for candidates to have realistic expectations for the treatment and understand the limits of what Botox can achieve. All inquiries will be gladly addressed during the initial consultation, where PA Ellie will discuss the treatment process, which will be thoroughly explained.

What to do before Botox treatments?

Before your treatment, we suggest avoiding alcohol, aspirin, and other blood-thinning substances for at least 48 hours. When you have a consultation, we’ll discuss your aesthetic goals and what you can expect from your treatment.

In some cases, PA Ellie will determine that adding dermal fillers to your Botox treatment will enhance your results. Dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane work on static lines when Botox is ineffective.

What to expect at a typical visit for Botox?

During the initial consultation, our physician assistant, Ellie, will discuss your areas of concern and what you hope to achieve using Botox. After that, she will complete an examination to see if Botox would be the best treatment option for you. The Botox treatment is simple and involves a few injections. Although numbing cream is usually not required, it may be used to improve comfort in sensitive areas. The expert injector will use a thin needle to administer the solution to the facial muscles that are contracting and causing lines and wrinkles to appear. Patients may need several injections per area.

What not to do after Botox?

You’re free to return to your usual activities immediately after treatment. However, for the remainder of the day, you should avoid touching your face without washing your hands, as this can lead to infection. You can expect minor swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising near your injection sites. These symptoms typically resolve within a few hours to a few days.
