What is IPL Photorejuvenation?

IPL Photorejuvenation is a gentle treatment that removes skin imperfections while stimulating collagen and elastin fiber production. Our IPL technology uses light pulses to penetrate the tissue and create heat, targeting skin imperfections in a controlled manner. The body will naturally remove the treated tissue, visibly improving skin tone and overall appearance.

Is IPL Right For You?

Broad Band Laser, or IPL, is a highly versatile treatment that can be administered at varying intensities, making it suitable for people of all skin tones. Essential Aesthetics utilizes state-of-the-art laser services, including IPL Photo rejuvenation. With our laser devices, Dr. Ellie DMSc, PA, can treat over 30 skin conditions, including:

  • Redness caused by broken capillaries or rosacea
  • Birthmarks
  • Visibly aged or sun-damaged skin
  • Brown spots and freckles
  • Acne and Acne damaged skin
  • Unwanted Hair
  • Spider veins and other vascular lesions

Although IPL and laser skin resurfacing are similar, they work differently. While laser resurfacing stimulates the skin to regenerate itself, IPL uses many different wavelengths to penetrate the skin at varying depths for an overall improvement. These wavelengths break irregular pigment into tiny particles, eliminating the lesion or spot. Vein treatment may be a better option for bothersome spider veins on the legs.

When Will I See Results Of IPL?

IPL Photorejuvenation works with your skin to remove imperfections over various treatments. The number of treatments sessions depends on the condition, but some skin concerns, such as superficial pigmentation and age/sun spots, may be cleared up within 1-2 treatments. Optimal results are typically achieved after 2-6 sessions with 4-6 weeks in between.

Your Experience

Most patients say their IPL treatments are relatively comfortable, so no topical anesthesia is necessary. Sometimes a cold coupling gel is used on the treatment area to ensure the utmost comfort. Depending on your specific concern and the size being treated, your appointment may last between 30 to 60 minutes.

Dr. Ellie DMSc, PA, uses the IPL handpiece to guide light energy into your skin in short pulses. You may feel a mild stinging or pinching and a warm sensation, but IPL is generally not painful. Immediately after your appointment, you can return to your normal activities.

Remember that your skin may look red and swollen several days after treatment, similar to a sunburn. You can conceal these symptoms with makeup. It’s also advised to protect your skin from the sun since your skin is especially susceptible to sun damage during the healing process. Dark spots and other types of discoloration often briefly intensify before fading — a typical indication that your treatment worked as expected.

Over the next few weeks, your results will gradually emerge. For the most desirable outcome, some patients require a series of treatments. During your consultation, Dr. Ellie DMSc, PA, works with you to create an individualized treatment plan to help you achieve the best results.
