Here in Danville, CA, Physician Assistant Elham “PA Ellie” Zarnegar uses IPL to treat everything from common signs of aging to unsightly veins and vascular lesions. Get to know the technology behind IPL and learn how it can solve some of your most stubborn complexion concerns.
IPL Photorejuvenation is a gentle treatment that removes skin imperfections while stimulating collagen and elastin fiber production. Our IPL technology uses light pulses to penetrate the tissue and create heat, targeting skin imperfections in a controlled manner. The body will naturally remove the treated tissue, resulting in a visible improvement in skin tone and overall appearance.
IPL Right For You?
IPL is an extremely versatile treatment that can be administered at varying intensities, making it suitable for people of all skin tones. Essential Aesthetics utilizes state-of-the-art laser services, including IPL Photorejuvenation. With our laser devices, PA Ellie can treat over 30 skin conditions including:
- Redness caused by broken capillaries or rosacea
- Visibly aged or sun-damaged skin
- Brown spots and freckles
- Acne and Acne damaged skin
- Unwanted Hair
- Spider veins and other vascular lesions
Although IPL and laser skin resurfacing are similar, they work in different ways. While laser resurfacing stimulates the skin to regenerate itself, IPL uses many different wavelengths to penetrate the skin at varying depths for an overall improvement. These wavelengths break irregular pigment into very small particles, eliminating the lesion or spot. For bothersome spider veins on the legs, vein treatment may be a better option.
I See Results Of IPL?
IPL Photorejuvenation works with your skin to remove imperfections over a sequence of treatments. The number of treatments depends on the condition, but some skin concerns such as shallow pigmentation and age/sun spots may be cleared up within 1-2 treatments. Optimal results are typically achieved after 2-6 sessions with 2-4 weeks in between.
Optimal results are typically achieved after 4-6 sessions at 2-6 week intervals, and you may continue to see improvements for up to six months following treatment.
Most patients say their IPL treatments are fairly comfortable, so no topical anesthesia is necessary. Sometimes a cold coupling gel is used on the treatment area to ensure the utmost comfort. Depending on your specific concern and the area being treated, your appointment may last between 15 to 30 minutes.
Using the IPL handpiece, PA Ellie guides light energy into your skin in short pulses. You may feel a mild stinging or pinching feeling and a warm sensation, but in general, IPL is not painful. Immediately after your appointment, you can return to your normal activities.
Keep in mind that your skin may look red and swollen for several days after treatment, similar to a sunburn. You can conceal these symptoms with makeup. It’s also important to protect your skin from the sun since your skin is especially susceptible to sun damage during the healing process. Dark spots and other types of discoloration often briefly intensify before fading — this is normal and a good indication that your treatment worked as expected.
Over the next few weeks, your results gradually emerge. For the most desirable outcome, some patients require a series of treatments. During your consultation, PA Ellie works with you to create an individualized treatment plan to help you achieve the best results.
