What is Laser Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing uses the power of light to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, age spots, acne scars, and other blemishes while tightening skin and correcting tone. Our lasers work to stimulate collagen, the key to healthier, brighter skin. At Essential Aesthetics, we offer two different options for resurfacing treatment:
Laser Skin Resurfacing
The fractional laser surfacing uses a state-of-the-art, non-ablative, technology that delivers laser microbeams into the skin, stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin fibers in the deep layers of the skin. Resurfacing treatments are fast and comfortable while delivering noticeable results.

Photoacoustic Fractional Laser
If you’re looking to erase signs of the past, such as scars or brown spots from sun damage, PicoFractional is the treatment for you. This revolutionary skin treatment solution uses photoacoustic energy to reach deep into the skin and shatter multiple types of skin pigmentation such as pigmented lesions, age spots, sun spots, acne scars, and surgical scars. It also treats facial lines and wrinkles to give you new, clear-looking skin. The PicoFractional laser converts light into sound waves to create tiny holes deep within the dermis and initiate an enhanced inflammatory healing response which results in an increased production of collagen and elastin. The skin regenerates itself naturally and rapidly, which is a process called neocollagenesis.
Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Right For You?
At Essential Aesthetics, Dr. Ellie DMSc, PA, uses fractional laser technology from different devices to address early signs of aging, improve skin texture, and overall skin appearance. Common concerns that can be remedied with lasers include:
- Irregularities caused by sun damage, such as lines on the cheeks
- Lip lines and other small lines around the mouth
- Uneven pigmentation, such as brown spots or red blotches
- Scars caused by injury, surgery, or acne
- Stretch marks
- Enlarged pores
- Melasma or “mask of pregnancy”
Our selection of lasers ensures that there’s an effective treatment available to most patients. Laser treatments can be used in adjunct with other treatments such as chemical peels, to give you optimal results.

When Will I See Results?
With both laser resurfacing and photoacoustic fractional laser, you will notice an immediate subtle difference, including cleaner, smaller skin pores, and a more even skin tone. About three sessions are typically needed for visible skin texture improvement and lightening of age and sunspots. Optimal results are typically achieved after 4-6 sessions at 4-6 week intervals, and you may continue to see improvements for up to six months following treatment.

Your Experience
Our lasers work by penetrating the skin to reach the deeper layers and stimulate the skin to create more of its own collagen while also accelerating the turnover of the outer layers of dull, damaged, or discolored skin.
Depending on the intensity of your laser treatment, Dr. Ellie DMSc, PA, may perform your procedure with the aid of topical anesthesia. You’re fitted with protective eyewear as Dr. Ellie DMSc, PA, prepares your skin for treatment. She applies the laser handpiece to your skin in your desired treatment area and directs the laser energy in short, quick pulses.
Recuperation after laser resurfacing depends on the intensity of the procedure, but most treatments have minimal downtime and are considered “lunch-time” treatments. Keep in mind that every patient is different. Variations in skin tone, age, and skin condition require a customized approach. Dr. Ellie DMSc, PA, works carefully with you to develop the perfect treatment plan.
As it heals, you can expect your skin to appear red or pink and feel warm and tender to the touch, like a sunburn. It’s important to protect your skin from the sun during this time and to use any aftercare products exactly as directed. Over the course of several weeks, your skin heals and your results become much more apparent. With good skincare habits, your results can last for many months. To prolong your results, you may wish to see us for occasional touch-up sessions.
