Our bodies are changing every day both internally and externally which influences our appearance and skin health. Although aging is natural, there are ways to slow down its process to help you age gracefully. After all, who said you have to look your age?

At Essential Aesthetics, we offer a variety of non-invasive treatments carried out by our expert provider, Ellie Zarnegar PA, DMSc, to help you love your skin at every age.

Your 20s

Your 20s are the time for prevention and rejuvenation. Collagen and elastin which are responsible for giving our skin its plump and firm appearance begin to break down in our 20s and this increases at a rate of about 1% per year. Using sunscreen daily helps prevent signs of aging such as fine lines and dark spots later on. Using active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and peptides helps replenish lost moisture and prevents dehydration. We also advise our patients to start Botox in their 20s, before the lines stick around on their face for good. Botox works by relaxing the muscles which relax the overlying skin so that wrinkles don’t form. This helps prevent future deep wrinkles from occurring.

Depending on your genetic predisposition, you may also begin noticing more cellulite on your body. Radiofrequency (RF) treatments can help reduce the appearance of cellulite by heating deep layers of the skin and breaking up the connective tissue that causes the formation of cellulite.

Your 30s

By this time, vertical lines between the brows, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet start to show. Rosacea, pigmentation, milia, and veins also begin to be more apparent at this time. Besides Botox, this is a good time to begin dermal filler treatment to help with volume loss, especially under the eyes, the cheeks, and temples.

Incorporating non-ablative laser treatments such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and resurfacing also help stimulate collagen to improve skin tone and texture, and reduce the appearance of dark spots and red veins. IPL technology uses light pulses to penetrate the tissue and create heat to target skin imperfections in a controlled manner.

Your 40s

In your 40s, fine lines and wrinkles become more prominent as your skin begins to lose moisture and elasticity, making it appear dull. Sunspots and hyperpigmentation also become more noticeable at this age. Skin laxity along the jawline and neck begin to appear as well, and the fat in our face repositions, creating jowls.

Continuing with maintenance sessions of Botox (every 3-5 months) and filler (every 6 months-1 year) will help to keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay. Laser resurfacing can also be used to help treat the texture of the skin, enlarged pores, lines and wrinkles, and uneven pigmentation. At Essential Aesthetics, we also have a photoacoustic fractional laser that reaches deep into the skin and shatters multiple types of pigmentation such as pigmented lesions as well as age and sunspots.

Your 50s and Up

As we turn 50, our bodies begin to go through hormonal changes that result in increased bone loss and fat pad shrinkage. You may notice hollowing of the face and deepening of the marionette lines and nasolabial folds. Menopause has a considerable effect on the breakdown of collagen and dehydrates the skin. Women start experiencing loose skin and cellulite throughout their bodies.

Hollowness, fat loss, and dehydration can all be treated with dermal fillers. Fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which has the ability to bind large numbers of water molecules within the body, dramatically improving tissue hydration. Not only does this help the skin look more plump and healthy, but it also firms the skin.

RF skin tightening and microneedling can be used to reduce skin laxity. This combination treatment triggers the regeneration of collagen and elastin fibers through RF energy through both non-ablative and ablative techniques. The skin tightening treatment delivers controlled RF heat and induces collagen contraction to stimulate new collagen production. The microneedling treatment creates controlled micro-wounds that encourage the growth of new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, creating an overall firmer appearance in the skin.
