If you’re tired of the painful, messy, and time-consuming traditional methods for hair removal, Essential Aesthetics has the solution for you. Our clinic offers two different laser hair removal options:
Diode Laser
Our diode laser handpiece comes with either 805 nm or 1060 nm wavelength, allowing a tailored treatment for all skin types. It also features two laser hair removal technologies for comfortable and effective treatments.
- High-Speed Vacuum Assisted Technology: Ideal for large treatment areas, this requires no prep and no gel. It incorporates suction to elevate and stretch the skin. Hence, the laser achieves maximum absorption into the hair follicles while covering a large area, shortening treatment time and reducing the sensation of heat.
- ChillTip Sapphire: This integrated Sapphire cooling system momentarily numbs the skin while compressing it, so the laser beam is directed into the hair follicle, and the energy is fully absorbed. This technology is meant for smaller, more delicate treatment areas.
IPL
IPL, or laser photo facial, is a flexible laser treatment that can treat sun and age spots, acne, and rosacea, among other conditions. IPL can also be used as a laser hair removal treatment. IPL for hair treatment uses highly controlled pulses of light to the treatment area that are selectively absorbed by the hair follicles beneath the skin’s surface. The absorbed light heats the hair follicles and damages them, preventing re-growth. This hair removal method is most effective on black, brown, and red hair.
Your Appointment
Laser hair treatment is non-invasive, which means it doesn’t break the skin in any way or damage surrounding tissue. You don’t need to make any special preparations before your appointment. However, it is important to avoid any sort of hair removal that removes the entire hair, such as waxing, tweezing, or depilatories, for at least 6 weeks before your appointment. Shaving is permissible because it only removes a portion of the hair.
Treatment & Results
The length of time you’ll spend in our office depends on which area of the body you’re treating. Larger treatment areas, such as the back or legs, require more time than areas such as the upper lip or bikini area. In general, you can expect to spend between 15-30 minutes in our office for each treatment session.
During the treatment, the aesthetic provider presses the laser handpiece against your skin, delivering energy in small bursts. Each energy pulse permanently damages the follicle, ensuring it no longer produces hair or produces only very fine “baby” hair. Patients often describe a “snapping” sensation against their skin during the process, but laser hair reduction is not known to be painful.
After your treatment, you can return to normal activities as soon as you like, although your skin will likely be moderately red and tender as if you have sunburn. It’s important to take good care of your treated skin after your laser hair removal. Keep it hydrated with a fragrance-free moisturizer, and avoid unprotected sun exposure.
Because human hair grows in phases, laser hair reduction treatment requires multiple sessions to be fully effective. We typically recommend between 6 and 12 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The number of treatments you’ll need depends on different factors, such as the area you’re having treated, your skin tone, and the color of the hair being removed. In the long term, you can expect significant hair reduction that lasts indefinitely.
