What is

DYSPORT?

Dysport is a non-surgical injectable treatment that has received FDA approval for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and dynamic lines in the upper face, suitable for both men and women. Manufactured by Galderma—also known for its popular products Restylane and Sculptra—Dysport is particularly effective for moderate to severe wrinkles that develop between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and around the eyes. As a neuromodulator, Dysport functions similarly to Botox by blocking nerve impulses to specific facial muscles, resulting in their relaxation. This process effectively softens wrinkles and fine lines, promoting a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

What is the difference between

BOTOX and DYSPORT?

Both Dysport and Botox are leading brands of injectable neuromodulators designed to relax facial muscles, thereby diminishing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. While they share similar functions and mechanisms—both acting to inhibit muscle contractions—their formulations differ slightly. Dysport has a distinct molecular structure, which may lead to different responses in individual patients. As a result, some people may find that one product works better for them than the other. If you're new to these treatments, we recommend trying both to discover which one yields optimal results for your skin.

How does

DYSPORT work?

Dysport operates on principles akin to Botox, utilizing molecules that block communication at the neuromuscular junction. However, Dysport employs a unique molecule, which allows it to temporarily inhibit the contractions of muscles responsible for crow's feet and frown lines by obstructing signals from the nerves to those muscles. Importantly, untreated muscles maintain their normal function, enabling you to express a range of emotions naturally and confidently.

What is

DYSPORT used for?

Dysport is primarily used to address significant dynamic lines on the face, including:

Horizontal brow lines
Frown lines (often referred to as "11" lines)
Crow's feet around the eyes

In addition to these common applications, Dysport can be used in other facial areas such as the masseter (jaw muscle) and chin. Furthermore, it has proven effective in treating excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in areas like the underarms, hands, and feet.

What makes

Dysport Special?

One of the distinguishing features of Dysport is its fast-acting formula. Many patients begin to see results within 2 to 5 days after treatment, with effects lasting up to 3 to 5 months, depending on individual factors such as metabolism and the area treated. Additionally, Dysport’s unique formulation allows for a more natural look, as it can provide softer results while still effectively reducing muscle activity.

How long does

DYSPORT last?

The effects of Dysport typically last between 3 to 5 months. However, this duration can vary based on factors such as the quantity of Dysport injected and the individual's metabolic rate. If an insufficient amount is administered, results may diminish after just two months. To optimize the longevity of results, specialists often recommend maintaining a robust skincare regimen that includes cleansing, moisturizing, and diligent sun protection with a high SPF, regardless of the treatment.

What is the recovery like

for DYSPORT?

Dysport is a non-invasive procedure that does not require any downtime, allowing you to return to your daily activities—such as work or school—immediately after treatment. However, it's advisable to avoid rubbing the injection site for at least 12 hours to minimize discomfort or swelling. If any discomfort arises, over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen can be used to alleviate symptoms. For several weeks following the injection, it's recommended to refrain from intense exercise, sun exposure, and alcohol consumption. Our provider PA Ellie Zarnegar will offer detailed aftercare instructions and a follow-up plan to ensure optimal results.
