Treatments for
Superficial and Deep Lines
As we age, lines and wrinkles become a part of life. However, they don’t have to be. Nowadays, there are plenty of options at our disposal to minimize or eliminate the appearance of aging altogether! Learn what causes lines and wrinkles, which anti-aging treatment options are available, and what occurs during each of these very different procedures.
Causes of
Lines & Wrinkles
Each time we smile, squint, or frown, we’re using hundreds of facial muscles. When we’re younger, skin just springs back.
However, as we age, our skin changes. Unfortunately, it becomes drier, thinner, and less elastic. This makes it less likely to “bounce back,” so permanent grooves form in our skin. These grooves are what we call wrinkles. Certain environmental factors can increase the likelihood of lines and wrinkles, like:
Smoking
Alcohol
Sun Exposure
Poor Diet
Lack of Sleep
Treatment Options
for Lines & Wrinkles
When it comes to lines and wrinkles, technology is your friend. There are actually plenty of different ways we can treat signs of aging. Our line & wrinkles treatment options include:
BOTOX
Dermal Fillers
Radio Frequency Microneedling and Skin Tightening
IPL (Intense Pulse Light)
Microneedling
Laser Resurfacing
Your Experience
with BOTOX
BOTOX is an excellent way to treat wrinkles. As mentioned earlier, wrinkles are caused by repeated facial movements. BOTOX is a neurotoxin that causes underlying facial muscles to relax.
During your BOTOX appointment, PA Ellie Zarnegar, DMSc, will first clean your skin. Then, she’ll probably ask you to make various facial expressions, so she can inject BOTOX into the muscles you want to relax.
Typically, the entire process takes no longer than 15-20 minutes. You’ll start to notice the results in the first week. Those results will last approximately 4 months.
Your Experience
with IPL
Wrinkles can be treated with IPL or Intense Pulsed Light. During IPL treatment, multiple different wavelengths of light are used on the skin, promoting new collagen and elastin.
During your appointment, PA Ellie, DMSc, will first apply a special gel to your face, that’s used to regulate temperature. Then, she’ll take an IPL handpiece and use it to guide light energy into your face. The experience isn’t painful, although you may feel a mild stinging. The entire IPL session typically lasts 30 minutes or so. Afterward, you’ll experience no downtime and can resume normal activities immediately.
In the days following treatment, your skin may appear red or swollen. This is a normal part of the healing process, and the skin can be camouflaged with makeup while it occurs. Within a few weeks, your skin will start to look younger. Still, you may require 4-6 treatment sessions to achieve the look you want.
Your Experience
with Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are another fantastic way to treat facial lines and wrinkles. At Essential Aesthetics, we offer a number of different filler types, including the entire Juvéderm family, as well as Restylane, Restylane Lyft, and RADIESSE.
During a consultation, PA Ellie, DMSc, will recommend a filler type for you. Most often, Juvéderm is used, although depending on your budget, desired treatment area, and your medical history, she may suggest using a different brand of fillers. Regardless of the filler chosen, the experience is the same. PA Ellie, DMSc, will cleanse the treatment area, before making a series of injections using a fine needle. Because each of the fillers contains lidocaine, injections are painless. The entire experience takes no more than a half-hour, there’s no downtime, and the results are immediate!
Your Experience
with RF Microneedling
During microneedling, PA Ellie, DMSc, uses RF Microneedling to perforate the outer layer of your skin with small sterile needles. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s healing process, so it produces collagen and elastin.
While the procedure may sound painful, patients usually don’t require anesthesia, although they may experience what feels like brief prickling sensations. The length of the procedure varies, depending on whether you’re having any procedures done that same day.
Afterward, your skin may temporarily appear red or inflamed. However, this will subside in a few days, which is also the same time you should start noticing results.
Your Experience
with RF Skin Tightening
This treatment combines clinically proven RF technologies to combat wrinkles and promote intense skin rejuvenation. RF microneedling and skin tightening target multiple layers of the skin, triggering regeneration of collagen and skin resurfacing, resulting in skin texture improvement and refinement. We are excited to offer this treatment as it provides immediate, long-term results, but also creates minimal pain and downtime after the procedure for the patient.
Good Candidates
for Line & Wrinkle Treatments
Virtually everyone is a good candidate for at least one of these treatments. However, PA Ellie, DMSc, may recommend one treatment over others, based on your goals and medical background.
That’s why we encourage you to schedule a consultation. During your appointment, PA Ellie, DMSc, will evaluate your wrinkles, so she can recommend the best treatment option for you.
