What is Kybella?

Treat yourself to Kybella, the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin, right here in Danville. Kybella is made of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps with the breakdown and absorption of fat. When injected into the chin, it dissolves fat to create a sculpted, attractive jawline that lasts.

What is Submental Fullness?

Submental fullness, also known as a “double chin”, is the accumulation of subcutaneous fat under the chin. Age, genetics, and weight gain play a major role in the development of submental fullness. Even if we can’t define what causes a double chin, those who live healthy and active lifestyles may still have a double chin that affects their confidence and overall look.

Am I A Candidate?

Kybella treatments work best for those with good skin elasticity because they allow the skin to conform smoothly to the slimmer contour. Although Kybella can help to tighten the skin, it cannot reverse severe skin laxity. If you have moderate to severe submental fullness with an absence of prominent neck bands, you are an appropriate candidate for Kybella injections. However, if you have severe skin laxity, scar tissue, prominent neck bands, and/or extreme submental fullness, Kybella may not be the right approach for you.

To see if you are a candidate for Kybella, schedule a consultation with Ellie Zarnegar, PA, DMSc, our advanced aesthetic provider. For more information, visit our FAQ page for KYBELLA treatment.

Dr. Ellie Administering Kybella for Double Chin in Women

Your Experience With Kybella

Your treatment with Kybella will begin with a full face assessment by Ellie Zarnegar, PA, DMSc. This will allow her to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for Kybella. Multiple-angle photos will be captured to evaluate your facial anatomy and submental profile. After a full assessment, Ellie Zarnegar, PA, DMSc, will then strategically map out the treatment area, known as the “Treatment Zone”, and begin injecting the product. The number of injections you receive will vary depending on the amount of fullness.

For optimal results, we combine Kybella treatments with radiofrequency (RF) massages. This helps disperse the product and tighten and tone the jawline and neck area.

What To Expect After Kybella Injection

Kybella treatments typically take 30–45 minutes to complete. In the hands of an expert injector such as Ellie Zarnegar, PA, DMSc, you will feel minimal discomfort during the procedure. Common side effects include swelling, bruising, numbness, and redness at the injection sites. These can last between 2-4 weeks, depending on each individual. Our office will provide you with pre- and post-treatment information to help reduce downtime after the procedure.

How Many Treatments Will I Need

Most patients experience visible results after 2-4 treatments, but some may require up to 6 treatments for optimal outcomes. Treatments are spaced out in 4 to 6-week intervals to allow time for recovery and yield better results. The number of treatments depends on your aesthetic goals, your existing chin profile, and how your body responds to the medication.

When Will I See Results

You will begin to see optimal results 6–8 weeks after your last treatment with Kybella.

Is Kybella Permanent

Results are long-lasting since Kybella causes the permanent destruction of fat cells in the treatment area. After reaching your desired look, further treatments are not expected.

Off-Label Uses for Kybella

Although Kybella is only FDA-approved for the double chin, it can also be used in other areas of the body to reduce pockets of fat including the underarms, back, abdomen, and more.

Bra Fat

Bra fat refers to the protrusion of fat over and under the back bra straps. This can be caused by weight gain, aging, genetic disposition, or after breast reduction surgery.

Underarm Fat

Underarm fat also referred to as “pit pooch,” is the fat that protrudes between the armpit and bra. This fat often deters people from wearing tank tops and strapless clothing.

Arm Fat

Also referred to as “bat wings,” the fat pad that runs along the lower arms can begin to sag and become loose, causing insecurities about wearing sleeveless clothing. Kybella can help reduce the appearance of this fat pad and tighten it.

Elbow Fat

Also referred to as “bat wings,” the fat pad that runs along the lower arms can begin to sag and become loose, causing insecurities about wearing sleeveless clothing. Kybella can help reduce the appearance of this fat pad and tighten it.

Belly Fat

For small pockets of fat on the upper and/or lower abdomen and around the belly button, Kybella injections can make a big difference.

Inner and Outer Thigh Fat

Kybella can be injected into the inner thighs to help with sagging and create a thigh gap. When injected into the outer thigh, it can help reduce the appearance of saddlebags.

Above the Knee Fat

When injected into the fat pad above the knees, Kybella not only helps create more definition in the legs but also can give relief when walking or running.

Kybella works best for those who are at their ideal weight but looking to eliminate small pockets of fat.
